#TheDeepSpace is thrilled to welcome portrait artist @Brendleflyoh into rehearsals #artexhibition4/2/2013 Self Portrait - Brendon O'Hanlon As we're at the start of week two of rehearsing The Deep Space, now seems like a good time to introduce to our artist in residence, Brendon O'Hanlon! Brendon specialises in drawing and painting portraits and he has joined us behind the scenes in the rehearsal room in order to observe, sketch and create portraits of the cast in action. We'll be hosting an evening of Brendon's work one night at the Old Red Lion Theatre during the run of The Deep Space - check back soon to find out exactly when! In the meantime you can find out more about Brendon and his work at www.Brendlefly.co.uk. With The Deep Space going on at the Old Red Lion Theatre in Islington it seemed only logical to get local businesses involved with making the production a success - and we are truly thrilled to have The Chapel Bar as one of our official sponsors! So thank you Alex and Luke, it means a lot to us to have you supporting The Deep Space, and we look forward to this being the start of a long and beautiful friendship! If you'd like to know more information about The Chapel Bar, go check out their website at www.thechapelbar.co.uk Well here's the gang, hard at work and definitely not posing with Scott's wonderful red file... But seriously, it was really exciting having all the creative and management side of Team Sprocket finally all under one roof, doing a spot of 'show'n'tell', exchanging ideas and puzzling over the challenges presented by both The Deep Space script and the space at the Old Red Lion Theatre - but it'd be boring if it was easy! Right? Ahem... As artistic director of Sprocket Theatre, and writer of the play, it was truly fantastic for me to hear all the ideas Claude and Scott have for the set and the lighting design. From a very simple script with minimal specifications for set, props, costume and so on, these guys have worked really hard to create a fantastic, tactile vision for the play that I'm already hugely excited about. Of course, I can't give anything away yet but, rest assured, it is going to be AMAZING! And of course, lets not forget Stage Manager James and Assistant Stage Manager Lex who've also been working wonderfully well together, drawing up floor plans for the Old Red Lion, digging around for props, sourcing pieces for the set, and generally being a massive help! (Did you catch James pushing Claude around in the trolley last week?) So, thanks Team Sprocket for all your hard work so far, the play is coming along beautifully well and I am just chomping at the bit to get into rehearsals next week and seeing this epic vision take shape! Oh, and watch this space - the official The Deep Space trailer is coming soon... Ah, nothing like a spot of good news to get you over the midweek hump... I am absolutely thrilled to announced that Lyndall Grant from fight co-ordinators RC-Annie is going to be helping us out with The Deep Space! Without giving too much away, there are a couple of moments of physical drama in the play that I knew would require some outside expertise, and Lyndall has very kindly stepped in to help us out. I first met the RC-Annie gang while training at Central, Rachel Bown-Williams and Lyndall Grant spent several weeks taking us through the basics of unarmed combat, rapier and dagger work before releasing us on the examination board. I had an absolute ball under their tutelage and managed to wangle myself a gold in Stage Combat BADC Level 1 with the help of my most marvellous scene partner Grant Leat - though goodness knows what Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant would have thought if they'd seen our interpretation of The Philadelphia Story... If you want to find out more about RC-Annie and it's excellent work in film, TV and theatre go visit their website at www.rc-annie.com. And, just because I can never resist a spot of Katherine Hepburn, here's a little bit of The Philadelphia Story for your viewing pleasure... With just two weeks to go till rehearsals start, the cast of The Deep Space got together with director Claude Girardi and stage manager James Lye to film the official trailer. Considering how freezing it was (it snowed overnight!) we were incredibly lucky to get a gorgeous day full of sunshine for the shoot. The footage is now going away to be edited, but below is a little behind-the-scenes sneak peek of the magical techniques that go into the making of a film - namely the borrowing of a trolley from a well known supermarket (don't worry, we returned it safe and sound!). Check out how fast James can run backwards... It's never easy asking for donations, but the reality is that without them it would be tough to get things off the ground.
So we at Sprocket Theatre have put together a little video that you can visit at crowdfunding website sponsume.com. Click on the link below to find out more about why we need a little extra help, and how you can do just that! http://www.sponsume.com/project/deep-space Thanks! Merry Christmas to one and all! Well, it's a been a busy past few months for Sprocket Theatre so it was wonderful to escape London-town for the north for a few days, to catch up with the family (that's my sister Louisa wearing the pointy Christmas hat), do some singing, unwrap some presents, and eat just a little bit too much... And if you need something to look forward to, to get you over the post-New Year's Eve hump, tickets for The Deep Space, Feb 19 - March 9, are now on sale at www.theoldredliontheatre.co.uk. So have a good'un and see you in the New Year! Here at Sprocket Theatre we're proud to present the new poster for The Deep Space - like it on Facebook at www.facebook.com/sprockettheatre
I am absolutely thrilled to introduce you to the brand new website for Sprocket Theatre!
We're still under construction, but we're live and that's the most important thing - keep checking back as we'll be adding a whole lot of fun stuff to the website over the next few weeks, including exclusive photos for our new show The Deep Space, coming soon to the Old Red Lion Theatre, Islington.
